Why We Should Strive to Not Live in The Past
We commonly think of those that accomplish great feats by doing it their way as great. However, by Heaven’s standards, that is not so. God asks if you have done it “His” way. “Thy will be done” In this, we are willing that we do Our Heavenly Father’s will. We may have great intentions and the best plan ever, but if we go against Our Father’s will, we are rejecting Him and risking eternity in the torments of Hell singing, “I did it my way!”
We must first realize that Our Heavenly Father loves us with a love far beyond any love that we can comprehend. A mother’s love is commonly held up as the greatest love on earth and yet God tells us, “Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you.” [Isaiah 49:15] Sending down His only Son in order to bring us back to Him. That takes a love beyond our understanding of love.
And Jesus displayed this love to us fully by taking on our sins, though He was sinless Himself, and dying for us. He did not do it for Himself. He did it for us in obedience to His Father. Jesus was able to say, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done.” [Luke 22:42] He asked that our salvation be accomplished another way, but remained obedient to His Father’s will. We do not need to understand or agree, but we need to accept Our Heavenly Father’s will. After all, He only wants the best for His children.
Jesus, we are sons and daughters of God through you. Help us to be good sons and daughters by accepting Our Heavenly Father’s will. Give us an overabundance of grace to always do His will, so that we can sing for eternity with all the angels and saints, “We Did It God’s Way”, as we rejoice in God’s infinite love. Amen.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways my ways—oracle of the LORD.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways,
my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” – [Isaiah 55:8-9]
