God commands us to obey authority
The irony for those desperate to keep abortion the law of the land continues to grow. On Thursday, June 9, members of the European Parliament (the governing body of the European Union) voted to pass a motion condemning the leaked Supreme Court draft which overturns Roe v. Wade (if the draft is upheld with the final decision). The EU vote was held in Strasbourg, France and was a 364-154 vote in favor of passing the motion, with 37 abstaining from the vote.
The European Union does not agree with overturning Roe v. Wade. So, do we care? Oh wait, we don’t. The United States is not a member of the European Union so might we kindly ask the EU to stay out of our business. If we wanted to live under EU rules and laws, then we would not have been the rebellious children and ran away from Britain all those generations ago. Then again, the EU could not even keep the UK from leaving the Union. So, I guess we still have a bit of that rebellious blood in common huh?
I have not been able to find any type of documents from the United States or the Supreme Court asking the EU their opinion on the matter. That is because we didn’t ask their opinion. Why should we?
However, the vote continues to show the demonic push worldwide for Satan to continue his blood bath of sacrifices to sin, self, and against the dignity of life created by God. Abortion is a human sacrifice to a false god. It is against everything the Lord desires for us as individuals, as people of God, and even as a nation.
The EU, using common and recognizable rhetoric popularized by pro-death advocates, said abortion is a “right” of a woman and is “healthcare”. It is clear the European countries are against life and accept the bloody river of abortions so they believe the entire world should do the same.
“Whereas according to the WHO, abortion is an essential element of comprehensive healthcare services and around 45% of all abortions are unsafe, of which 97% take place in developing countries; whereas according to the UNFPA, an estimated 121 million unintended pregnancies occur each year, and over 60% of these end in abortion; whereas in recent years, opponents of SRHR and women’s autonomy have had a significant influence on national law and policy, with retrogressive initiatives taken at global level, including in several Member States; whereas the rise of the far right in also contributing to this backsliding in women’s right to abortion, which is manifesting itself across the world.”
The motion goes on to say, “whereas sexual and reproductive rights (SRR), including safe and legal abortion, constitute a fundamental right; whereas criminalizing, delaying and denying access to safe and legal abortion care constitutes a form of violence against women and girls; whereas several human rights bodies have asserted that the denial of safe and legal abortion may amount to torture or cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment; whereas unsafe abortions that lead to death in the context of abortion bans should be understood as ‘gender-arbitrary killings, only suffered by women, as a result of discrimination enshrined in law.’”
Interestingly I would argue that it is not 45% of abortions that are unsafe. I would say that 100% of abortions are unsafe. The difference, however, is who they are unsafe to because 100% of abortions are unsafe to the unborn children in the womb. Only 45% of them, according to the EU, are unsafe to the mother. If the EU cared about those 45%, they would not want them to be having abortions either. If the EU cared about the 121 million unintended pregnancies, they would advocate for abstinence rather than abortion.
However, back to the key question of the day: “Why do we care what the EU thinks of our laws?” Oh wait….we don’t.
But, while we are at it, let’s consider (just for the fun of it) the argument of the EU that there is a need for safe and legal abortions. The EU says people who are going to have an abortion will do it anyway, even if it is illegal, but they will endanger their health and their own life by doing it in an unsafe manner. As a result, they believe we should just go ahead and keep it legal so it can be safe. The EU argues that abortion protects the health of the mother because she can get an abortion in a safe manner and not some back-alley abortion clinic somewhere.
If that is the case, why not make all drugs legal too and open clinics for drug addicts to come and “safely” use drugs to prevent overdose? Addicts overdose and do detrimental harm, even fatal many times, to themselves because they are in an alley, abandoned building, their bedroom, or even at their dinner table shooting up in an unsafe manner with no one to monitor how much they use. No one is there to make sure they do it safely so maybe we should just let all the drug addicts out of rehab, out of prison, and open clinics for them to safely shoot up? It sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? Yes, it does. It is as ridiculous as the argument that we need legal abortions in order to allow the mother to do it safely.
The reality is the Church proclaims life is to be protected from conception to natural death and life is a gift of God. That is not just the Church’s belief or teaching, but it is Biblical. Every life has dignity, value, and worth and therefore should be protected from harm. Satan’s puppets in the EU are being used to increase the attack against the Church and against God’s truth in an effort to make the church and pro-life advocates back down from urging repentance and to shy away from advocating for life. Satan is the author of death. God is the author of life. Archbishop Paul Gallagher commented immediately following the vote that the Church opposes the ideology that abortion is a right.
We know the battle over abortion is a battle over life and death. The EU should worry more about what its own members do rather than what a country that is not a member is doing. The battle against Satan’s sacrifice of unborn children is not over.
