Kindness Outdone?
“For this commandment which I command you this day is not too hard for you, neither is it far off...But the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart.” Deuteronomy 30:11-14
God is not some old man sitting in a great big golden chair up in heaven. He doesn't sit up there looking sternly down at us like Abraham Lincoln frowns down from his chair at the tourists gawking around in the Lincoln Memorial. God is also not some wise old owl sitting in a tree off somewhere in the forest. God is the master of the universe, the very same universe we happen to call home. And the God who has invited us to this home loves to feed us. He loves to feed us His commandments and grace so much that He literally stuffs His Word in our mouths much like a Polish Babcia or grandmother stuffs her pierogies in all the mouths of her guests before they even have time to take their shoes off at the door. Next time God feeds you His grace, or gives you some troubles to chew and grind your teeth on, take a bite. Letting God feed us is the best thing we could do for ourselves. Going to Communion and receiving God in our mouths and in our hearts is the closest we can physically get to God on this earth. Imagine His delight when we eat the meal He made for us out of His own Flesh and Blood. God is real, He is near, and He wants to feed us every meal of every day.
