Roe is gone, so now what?
Some may think that the we are done fighting. Some may think that nothing has changed. However, both would be wrong. From all of the news coverage, you likely know that abortion legality now sits with the states. We know that the Devil will not stop trying to perpetuate his evil. And while the fight has changed, it is still on.
It must not be lost that Roe was overruled on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus during the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. All of the prayer that has been poured into the reversal of Roe was absolutely critical. Jesus claimed triumph over abortion with the perfect lining up of the feast of His Sacred Heart. We must continue to pray, and much more than before with the obvious indicator that it has gotten us this far.
One of the spiritual works of mercy is to instruct the ignorant. And when it comes to abortion, many are ignorant. The false idea that sex without consequences is a right underlies how they see a need for abortion. While we must instruct the ignorant about how abortion ends a human life, we must be willing to address how abortion is never necessary. Sex without consequences is not how we were created.
The false idea of sex without consequences could be better understood as sex without blessings. Children are a blessing, whether a couple was trying to conceive a child or not. Every person was created in the image and likeness of God. Every person is a blessing to our world. When we seek selfish desires and reject God's potential blessings, we are rejecting God. "[W]hoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me." [Matthew 18:5] Are we open to receiving Jesus or rejecting Him for worldly pleasures?
There is much work to abolish abortion in our country. We start with ourselves, then instruct the ignorant around us. Then, we can have a community that has abolished abortion. Then, a state. Then, a country. But we have to be willing to address the underlying issue as to why many falsely think there is a need for abortion. It may be difficult but remember... overturning Roe was considered by many as impossible and God showed that He can conquer sin, if only we put it into His hands and He placed it within His Sacred Heart.
Jesus, thank you for having brought about the destruction of Roe. Help us now to have the strength to continue the fight to protect Your little children. We ask You to place them into Your Sacred Heart and vow to pray each day for an end to abortion. Take these prayers into Your Sacred Heart and conquer this evil just as You conquered death on the Cross, by rising on Easter. Amen.
