Who is at the kids table this Thanksgiving?

For those old enough to remember, there was a song by The Byrds called "Turn! Turn! Turn!" that I used to sing along to whenever it was on the radio. It always reminded me of the famour scripture verse, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). There is a season for each of us in our roles throughout our lifetime. After I had my baby, I remember a friend saying the days are long but the years are short. As a child, I remember my mother saying she couldn’t believe how fast time goes the older you got.
The older I get, the more I see the wisdom in these words throughout different seasons of my life. Part of this current season includes seeing my parents begin to age. I begin to feel a sense of urgency to talk to them more often, twinged with some regret from the times that I took them for granted, was too busy to pick up the phone when they would call, or laugh at their lack of ‘tech skills’. I value every conversation a bit more. A lot more really.
We know that one of the Ten Commandments is to honor our father and mother (Exodus 20:12). This is a key element of God’s instructions for us. I remember memorizing this for a religion test at school. These words have now become alive, have flesh on them, as I age and wish for time to now slow down so I can breathe in every experience now. As God’s children, we can ask Him to love us through these seasons and feel His grace, for every purpose under heaven. Can you ask Jesus to accompany you through your own season of life?

Carmen Moore has a passion for many things including her Catholic faith/Catholic education, autism, supporting families in navigating educational/familial goals and learning at the same time. With a vast background in formalized education, Carmen has enjoyed a career as a classroom teacher, school principal, and teacher coach supporting students with specialized needs that has spanned decades. However, her vocation as a wife and mother is her greatest passion and is living that out with laughter, love and prayer as they face what life brings.
Carmen is also a freelance writer and has contributed to many online and print publications (faith related and otherwise) and was a regular blogger for her local Parish. Her passion extends to public speaking and she has shared her story with many audiences. She was chosen to create short video clips for Redemptorist TV which are featured in her website as well at CMooreinEducation that are based on personal experiences and faith reflections.
With a formal education that includes a Masters in Religious Education (MRE) as well as being a committed Catholic for her entire life, her focus on being joyful (even when things go sideways...) has helped her to share her insights by writing, speaking and trying to live that message. Being a parent of a child with 'different abilities' who lives his life in 'joy mode' most of his life, has inspired her to live each new day with a fresh perspective. She is honored to be able to share some insights on Catholic 365. God is good...all the time!
