What is Love?
Our Blessed Mother, the mother of Christ, said yes to the Angel Gabriel's visit and question to become the mother of God. This “yes” was the beginning of what would later on become the Church, and we are ever grateful to her for her Fiat. Mary is our mother, and she is the mother of God. Our Lady of Mercy’s Solemn Feast is celebrated on September 24th, and this is a day in celebration of Mary, the mother of Mercy.
Our Lady of Mercy
The Church admires and exalts Mary as the mother of the Church and our own mother. We are grateful for this “yes” she gave which changed the course of history. The Mercedarian Religious Order pays special attention and reverence to Our Lady of Mercy as the patron of the Order. Her feast day is a reason of celebration not just for the Church but for the entire world. Mary is the spiritual foundress of the Mercedarian Order, and every year on September 24th this day is celebrated with great joy.
Mary’s work along side her beloved son Jesus is reason to honor and celebrate her for her continued work for the redemption of souls for all time. The mercy of God is ever present in this devotion. Mercy is at the heart of evangelization for the Order of Mercy.
Pray to Our Lady of Mercy
There are many people in today’s world searching for meaning and hope. Our Lady of Mercy is always there to encourage and to pray for those who are downtrodden and discouraged. She is there to pray for us, care for us, and to show God’s mercy toward all of us. She is alive and present to us each day, and she watches over us.
The image of our Mother Mary who is ever-present in our lives gives hope to all people. On this day of September 24th and throughout the month of September and beyond, let us remember to intercede to Our Lady of Mercy.
