Margaret Mary and the sacred Heart.
In this season of thanks, we should give thanks for the most precious gift of all-LIFE. Sadly, many aspects of life are under attack. Most targeted are the terminally ill, where some corners of medicine see death as a “management problem”. Also, the dawn of life is under a ruthless and relentless attack from our “devout” Catholic President.
Last week, President Biden stated that his top legislative priority after the midterm elections will be codifying a national right to abortion. Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, issued the following response emphasizing the teaching of the Catholic Church on upholding the dignity of human life:
“The President is gravely wrong to continue to seek every possible avenue to facilitate abortion, instead of using his power to increase support and care to mothers in challenging situations. This single-minded extremism must end, and we implore President Biden to recognize the humanity in preborn children and the genuine life-giving care needed by women in this country. As pastors who deal daily with the tragic impacts of abortion, we know that abortion is a violent act which ends the life of preborn children and wounds untold numbers of women. The Catholic Church wishes to continue in our work with our government and leaders to protect the right to life of every human being and to ensure that pregnant and parenting mothers are fully supported in the care of their children before and after birth.”
According to the New York Post; President Biden bristled at a reporter Monday before admitting that Democrats had not done enough in last week’s midterm elections to codify abortion rights nationwide — then telling the journalist he shouldn’t have responded to the inquiry. The president, speaking at a news conference in Bali, Indonesia, after his face-to-face meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, told the assembled reporters that he would take questions from four of them.
After Biden fielded the four inquiries, NBC News’ Peter Alexander shouted out: “Mr. President, what should Americans expect from Congress as it relates to abortion rights after the midterms?” “I don’t think they can expect much of anything other than we’re going to maintain our positions,” Biden said. He then paused before adding in an annoyed tone: “I’m not going to get into more questions. I shouldn’t even have answered your question.”
“I don’t think there’s enough votes to codify, unless something unusual happens in the House,” Biden said the Monday before Election Day. “I think we’re going to get very close in the House. But I don’t — I think it’s going to be very close, but I don’t think we’re going to make it.”
Biden’s comments were met with celebration from pro-life advocates, who have worked in states around the country to pass new legislation in response to the Supreme Court’s June ruling.
“The President should dedicate his remaining two years to working to codify a law that protects preborn American citizens in the womb,” said Hugh Brown, executive vice president of American Life League.
Others called for no taxpayer funding of abortion. Recent reporting from The Center Square showed that federal funding for Planned Parenthood has continued to increase, rising even as its revenue rose to $1.71 billion in 2020-21. About 37% of Planned Parenthood’s revenue comes from taxpayers. In recent years, the group’s abortions rose even while the total number of patients declined.
Defenders of Planned Parenthood say federal funds are used for other non-abortion services, but critics argue the money is fungible and covers the group’s costs regardless of how it is officially earmarked.
“When Joe Biden and the Democrats talk about ‘codifying Roe,’ what they mean is imposing abortion without limits on all 50 states,” said Eric Scheidler, executive director of the Pro-Life Action League. “They don’t have the votes for that, and will never have the votes for that, because the American people are not abortion extremists. Americans support moderate policies like late term abortion limits, parental notification of abortion, and no taxpayer funding of abortion – none of which Biden and the Democrats will consider for even a moment.”
As President Biden pardoned two beautiful turkeys, let us hope he pardons the innocent unborn persons with the same grace and humor. Let us hope he lets them have a lifetime of Happy Thanksgivings the way, undoubtedly, he and his family will enjoy.
