Stop Calling Joe Biden a "Catholic President"
I have seen Catholics get more angry about someone sharing photos of an aborted baby than the act of abortion itself. Think about that for a moment. We seem to have become so deluded in our view of abortion, that when we see its ugly, violent face, (in the image of a little baby's torn body parts on a table in some hospital) we get angry at whomever had the audacity to ruin our day.
It is fascinating that, ever since the unholy birth of Cardinal Bernadin's confused "Seamless Garment Theory"(1) (2) (which has been condemned by the Church by the way,) we have been putting social justice issues on a higher moral level than abortion. In fact, Pew Research shows that 56% of Catholics are in favor of abortion being LEGAL in all or most cases!! And only 36% of Catholics said that abortion is “very important” in informing their choice in the 2020 presidential election.(3) This is disgusting and abominable for the people of God to be so blatantly lukewarm! "But because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold, nor hot, I will begin to vomit thee out of my mouth." [Apocalypse (Revelation) 3:16]
We modern intellectual pro lifers claim that "all issues are life issues because all issues affect human lives and human lives are important because God died for each one of us." Or something along those lines. Yet somehow, at the same time, we believe that abortion is important in its own place and time, but let's-not-let-it-ruin-our-dinner. Let's not let the violent reality of human babies being ripped apart in their own mothers wombs get in the way of our voting habits, or our peace of mind. Sound about right? I see a very INconsistant Life Ethic here.
As American Life League once put it, " (H)ow many times have veteran pro-life activists heard; 'You're not really pro-life unless you ...'
• oppose capital punishment;
• work to stop nuclear war;
• work to stop hunger;
• work to increase human dignity;
• work to increase access to contraception;
• work to safeguard "gay" (i.e., pervert) rights;
• help save the whales;
• adopt several Ethiopian children;
• are a strict vegetarian and wear no leather;
• and do a thousand other things,
• ANYTHING besides opposing abortion!'" (4)
That is quite the list. Perhaps if we just say "Consistent Life Ethic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" to whoever takes abortion more seriously than the rest of these issues, we will be doing our part and we can sit down and finish the rest of our favorite Netflix series with peace of mind.
The fact that Catholic's seem to get more upset at someone focused on ending abortion than the violent reality of abortion itself, speaks volumes. Sure we can use all the popular Catholic buzzwords like, "mercy", "charity", "judgement", "love". However, just using those words to try to shut out the very Satanic, very violent reality of abortion demonstrates a frightening lack of empathy. Sure, we may believe we have only good intentions at heart, but that simply doesn't cut it. The fact remains that abortion is an intrinsic evil that we Catholics should be doing more to end, by our works and prayers. Unfortunately, some Catholics seem to take offense at such statements, but to take this statement as a personal attack is to have a shocking disconnect from reality. After all, what is the more pressing issue here? The unbaptized human babies that are getting murdered in their mothers womb every second world wide, or our hurt feelings?
You read that right. Human babies are getting murdered, literally every second world wide in the practice of abortion, according to the statistics (numberofabortions.com).
It's strange how some Catholics seem to hear "racism is good, unemployment is good, ect" when I say that abortion is the most important issue today. One can agree that racism is bad and unemployment is not good, while also acknowledging the fact that abortion is even worse than either of these two issues. After all, this is exactly the stance that the Church takes.
I stated above that the "Seamless Garment Theory" (aka the "Consistent Life Ethic") is condemned by the Church. Even though many prominent liberal priests and bishops have enjoyed using this "Theory" as an excuse to overlook the gravity of abortion, the Church itself has always taught that abortion is on a higher level of importance than say, poverty or unemployment. The idea that something as silly as so-called "climate change" is just as intrinsically evil as abortion is totally against Catholic Teaching.
Father of the Church, St. John Chrysostom wrote that abortion is "something even worse than murder."(5)
Many of us believed that a healthy person who refused to wear a face diaper was "literally killing people"(6) (7). So, perhaps it makes sense that we cannot come to the conclusion that abortion is worse than murder. Or perhaps we have used the word "murder" so much we cannot even comprehend its real meaning anymore, especially when it concerns an unborn human being who hasn't even been baptized.
Moving right along.
Pope St. John Paul II said this concerning the "Consistent Life Ethic" mentality on February 12, 1986, “An extreme sensitivity akin to a holy reaction is felt when attempts on life are made in the form of famine, war, and terrorism; yet, one cannot find this feeling of sensitivity when faced with abortion, which takes the lives of innumerable innocent beings.” He writes a few years later, "Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights – for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture – is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination." (8)
Dr. Jeff Mirus rightly said, "(I)n the present circumstances the abortion problem has the following characteristics:
It is intrinsically evil, that is, direct abortion is always morally wrong;
It is the sin of murder, which means it is always gravely wrong;
It is practiced on an extraordinarily grand scale in our contemporary society;
It is both guaranteed as a right and directly facilitated by government, making it a pre-eminent political issue.
And since this evil can be known through both Divine Revelation and the Natural Law, every person of good will ought to recognize it as evil, making it a clear basis for significant judgments about the moral credibility of any person, including any candidate for public office.
To this we could easily add some additional social dimensions, such as the many ways in which abortion tears apart the very fabric of the family, which is the only sound basis for a healthy society." (9)
That sounds like abortion is a pretty important issue.
As Catholic Author, commentator, Timothy Gordon J/D/, Ph.L., M.A. once said (10), the fact that we have to tell people that abortion hurts women, or that abortion kills mostly black babies, to get people to care about abortion is ridiculous. Abortion is always wrong. It doesn't matter the color of the baby or the stage of its development. Babies murdered in the diabolical practice of IVF are just as precious as babies murdered in partial birth abortion. And no, we should never lower ourselves to make abortion sound less "bad" or less diabolical just because a "post abortive woman" might see it and feel bad. A mother who murders her child should feel bad about that choice she made to kill her own child. That's not a shocking statement. Obviously those who repent of this heinous act should not be treated any different than Christ would treat them (spoiler: If they went to Confession, He forgave them.) However, we cannot, and should not allow the fact that so many women are post-abortive, to keep us from saying how evil abortion is. If a woman has confessed her abortion and has repented, God bless her. She is no longer guilty of her crime, and what we say about abortion is not condemning her, nor is it holding her accountable for her past sin.
