Knowing God; Growing in his Love!
Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s voice!
Of course the human ear cannot hear the audible sound of the Holy Spirit, but once you have felt his urging through your heart then you’ll know who it is tugging at you every time he speaks.
It is like a spouse reaching into your psyche without ever laying a hand upon you and the very sense of her voice will enter in a way you'll learn to understand.
When the Holy Spirit reaches within the senses of your own spirit he is calling you in a spiritual manner with a task that needs your attention. If you don’t respond he will not go away. The reason is once you answer the call of God and promise to become one with him he will not forget your original response and you will hear the tugging in your heart.
The call of God in our lives is once forever and we must not run away looking for an easier path to something we may reject. St. Augustine said, “our heart is restless until it rests in you”. This is a covenant that God holds to the promise we made together. Through his Spirit we will find a new direction and will not reject a silent conversation within the very spiritual communication we have with one another.
An incident I wrote about before wherein I forgot a Sunday homily and when arriving back home, after delivering a homily where I didn’t even know what I said, I looked up and said, “What are you doing to me?” The words succinctly said, “You’re always speaking about faith, today I tested your’s.” This was an encounter with his Spirit within my mind and heart that has never left me. When I write, he is always with me, not dictating but reaching instead through a communication that only two lovers can understand when they are one.
Another article I wrote where we become one in God and he becomes one in us. We are still finite, but share his infinite existence with his creatures. There may be some who will never realize this deep and lasting connection with God’s Spirit, but it is there; the finite and the infinite joining together as in a marriage with no separation.
“I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us.” (Jn. 17: 20 - 21).
God is always reaching his creatures who are without faith by using us who have accepted his call. The Holy Spirit is in a restless existence guiding, supporting, and sharing his gifts with us so that our mission in life will produce God’s purpose. Open your heart to the voice of the Holy Spirit and allow unity like a marriage of God and you!
