Think of Others Not Ourselves: Reflection for 30th Sunday of Ordinary Time
This is in response to President Biden's so-called "State of the Union" address.
Last night, the Biden Administration continued to live a fairy tale of delusion during its annual address to the nation. In short, Biden continues to celebrate death to America while sharing his frustration with the overturn of Roe v Wade, promising to codify abortion. He brags about abortion being a part of his agenda while women are hurt and dying from lethal abortion drugs now sold by major pharmaceuticals like CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid. He has left our southern border open paving the way for high crime rates.
He weaponized the FBI to target his opponents that included a former POTUS, VPOTUS, a pro-life father of seven, and others. But when Catholic churches and pregnancy resource centers were targeted during the summer of rage in the days before and after the Dobbs decision, there was no arrest or investigation. Now, the FBI intends to go after Catholics who frequently attend the Latin Mass, according to one of their whistleblowers.
He refuses to promote election integrity and he promoted election fraud in the form of fake ballots to help his colleagues cheat in battleground states, yet he claims his opponents are suppressing citizens' right to vote.
He has weakened our foreign policy that allowed a Chinese satellite in America’s airspace, yet governors were told not to engage. He even had classified files that were kept away at several locations he denied that he had any knowledge of the files. He even allowed an actual insurrection to take place on Capitol Hill during the recent visit of the Ukrainian president as his flag was waved with pride by the Vice President and Speaker of the House. In exchange, he gets $40 billion to help in the effort to defeat Russia at our expense.
Families are struggling to make ends meet as inflation, gas prices, and other necessities are climbing while money is losing its value. Meanwhile, he and his woke circles refuse to acknowledge the fact that our nation is in a recession.
Yet, having mentioned all the problems we are currently facing, he claims that the State of the Union is strong. It has been at its weakest since his predecessor’s last day in office.
Change the Tide
If we want to be Catholic in public office, then it is time to make voters and opponents fear God. Biden has not done that. In his half a century as a public servant, which he served most of those years in the Senate, Biden has not accomplished one thing. At the same time, he has flipped-flopped on many issues.
Take, for example, the Hyde Amendment. He once supported this legislation that saved millions of lives. Unfortunately, he became a dissident in this life-saving act. Even many Democrats wore love abortion pins during the SOTU. How ironic that there was a heart in that pin and abortion stops one heart from beating while breaking many others. Those elected officials will face the final judgment on how they protected the most vulnerable in our society.
Catholics, as we look ahead to 2024, we must be ready to put forth lions that are willing to fight the establishment tooth and nail until the job is done. It’s time to stop relying on the establishment and start putting the fear of God in the minds, hearts, and bodies of every elected official.
G.K Chesterton puts it well when he wrote, “The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of the Conservatives is to prevent the mistakes from being corrected.” Chesterton knew a century ago how American politics would shift. We have seen too many mistakes made by liberal progressives. It is time to elect people who will rectify those mistakes and move America forward not backward.
The time for passive political involvement is over. We have fellow citizens that rely on the government like it’s God. The government will not fulfill the things God will. Our nation needs to turn back to him. The government does not tell us who lives and who dies, that is God’s job. The government does not say what is love or marriage. That has been written by God since day one.
Catholics of good faith, it is time to rise and defend our faith. It is time to reclaim this nation under God for his glory. Let us stand together to defeat Satan’s influence in our political system, community, education, and everyday life.
May God Save the United States of America
