Keep Watch: Reflection for the 1st Sunday of Advent
April is the month dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament.
We will also begin a new liturgical season during the month. Lent ends. Like every month, there are feast days worth celebrating and days to remember as we draw closer to a season of celebration of new life.
April 1st- First Saturday to the Immaculate Heart of Jesus
Attend Daily Mass, pray the rosary, receive the Eucharist, and get to confession
April 2nd- Palm Sunday (beginning of Holy Week)
April 5th- Spy Wednesday (First Wednesday dedicated to Most Chaste Heart of St. Joseph)
April 6th- Holy Thursday
· Celebration of the Eucharist and Holy Priesthood
· Chrism is blessed at cathedrals by the bishop or cardinal
· Repository is open in all churches following Mass. Take time to pray with Jesus
April 7th- Good Friday (the First Friday of the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus)
· One meal
o No snacks
· Drink water
· No meat
· Observe silence from noon to three
April 8th- Holy Saturday
· Sacraments of initiation will be given to those coming into the church that evening
April 9th- Easter Sunday (Get to Mass)
· Beginning of Easter Octave
o Ends on Divine Mercy Sunday
April 16th- Divine Mercy Sunday
April 23rd- 3rd Sunday of Easter
April 30th- 4th Sunday of Easter
While many feast days are omitted because of Holy Week, it doesn’t hurt to acknowledge the holy men and women we celebrate during April.
