THE PROBLEM WITH NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY
St. Luke’s gospel placed a great emphasis on women. From the Blessed Mother to the women who met Jesus on the road to Calvary and all in between, Jesus knew women had a place in his kingdom let alone in the Catholic Church.
Sixth Station: Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus
Reflection: Moved by the spirit, Veronica was guided to Jesus. She saw someone who has been disfigured and she just did what had to be done. Sometimes we see someone who is struggling and without being asked had to jump in and help that person in their moment of need.
Prayer: Jesus, Veronica helped you without being asked. We often forget the extra graces that come with lending a surprise hand to someone who is struggling. Help us to spring into action at a moment’s notice. Help us to care for those who are hurting physically, mentally, or spiritually, no matter how uncomfortable we are. Help us to see your face in every person we encounter. Amen.
Eighth Station: Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem
Reflection: Though he was in excruciating pain and suffered greatly by the heavy cross he took time to instruct others. Along the way, he saw a group of women that paid him homage. He reminded them to not worry about them, but he wanted them to worry about themselves. How often do we put the need of others ahead of ourselves?
Prayer: Jesus, your gospel reminds us to be selfless, not selfish. The needs of others are greater than my own ambitions. Help me to exercise great humility to care for those who have problems. Show me how to make sacrifices for those who need me in their moment of desperation. Amen
