Lukewarm Catholicism is A Scourge Upon the Church
I first made my consecration to Jesus through Mary several years ago, and in renewing the consecration year after year each time it becomes more powerful and transformative in my life. Kneeling at the altar rail before the Blessed Sacrament making this act of devotion reminds me of the beauty of our Catholic Faith, and how the meaningful experience is an outward representation of my inner commitment to being a follower of Christ. During this time of spiritual renewal I am strengthened in my relationship with Our Lord, and the Mother of God.
I first learned about making a consecration to Jesus through Mary during a Bible study group. One of the young women shared her experience of making the consecration, which was the first time I had heard of it. However, it wasn't until a few years later that I made the decision to entrust myself to Our Lady and receive her maternal care and protection.
In today’s world we are constantly bombarded with the message of selfishness and to only be reliant on ourselves, but when we make the consecration to Jesus through Mary we are depending on our Mother Mary. We are letting go of the “me, myself, and I” attitude, and acknowledging that we all have a spiritual Mother in heaven who desires for us to attain our salvation and spend eternity with her Son in paradise.
The Blessed Virgin Mary is not simply a woman written about in Sacred Scripture, but is the Mother of God, and Mediatrix. She intercedes for us to her Son in heaven. Our Lady is a perfect model of humility, obedience, and faith, and she assists us in deepening our relationship with her Son. It is a profound devotion that I believe would significantly benefit other young women because it offers an abundance of graces granted to us from Jesus through Mary.
When I made my consecration to Jesus through Mary the first time, I was experiencing a significant challenge in my life. I felt as if I had nowhere to turn, and that I was enduring this rough and turbulent storm in my life on my own. But it was in this profound experience of making my consecration that I found peace, and became more aware of God’s Presence and the consolation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Renewing my consecration each year is a deeply reflective experience, as I consider my relationship with Christ and how I can grow closer to Him. It is also a time to reflect on Mary's active role in my life and how I can better open myself to her guidance in moving towards her Son. The renewal serves as a reminder of the immense love that Mary has for me and for all of humanity.
Consecrating ourselves to Jesus through Mary as Catholics in an extraordinary way to live out our Faith. Christ calls us to give not a part of ourselves, but our whole selves to Him, and we can trust His Mother to help to lead us into the arms of her Son. Mary always wants what is best for us as her spiritual children. Everything about our Blessed Mother points to Jesus never herself in complete and total humbleness.
As young women living in the world today we are confronted by various hardships and temptations, and making a consecration to Jesus through Mary can help us to remain focused on the main priority in our lives, which should always be Jesus Christ. The material things of the world will eventually fade away, but the love of the Son of Man remains forever.
