Are you holding out a tea cup?

   God wants to shower you with grace.  It is His great desire that you receive the nearly innumerous graces that He has for you.  However, many of us are just holding out a tea cup.  You see, in order for us to receive these nearly innumerous graces, we have to rid ourselves of lesser things.

   We are unwilling to let go of our attachments to sin and also just to lesser goods.  Watching a show or video is not inherently bad - unless of course the show or video itself is inherently bad, in which case… TURN IT OFF! - , but spending too much time watching shows or videos leaves less space for God’s grace.  We hold out a smaller cup.

   We all have attachments to sin and lesser goods that fill us up so as to leave less room for God.  What God wants to do in your life is beyond your imagining.  You want a good life.  God has a GREAT life planned for you.  God has all of the joys to live it with the graces.  The saints held out a large cup.  They emptied themselves in order to be filled more with God.

   But I cannot be like the saints, you may say.  Well, they were just normal people that responded to God.  Sure, some seemed predestined from early on, but they still needed to respond to God with a large cup.  They could have been content with what God had already given them, but they made more room for God.  Each moment, you are given a choice between filling yourself with God, goods lesser than God, and just plain evil.  Choose the best.  It is what Jesus died for.

   Jesus, You suffered greatly to open the gates of Heaven.  May we open ourselves to the innumerous graces that You want to pour into us.  Help us to rid ourselves of evil and lesser goods in order to be filled with You and Your graces. Amen.
