God Meets All Of Our Needs
The soul is supposed to reflect God, as the sun twinkles upon the water. Just as the shining reflection of light can be seen upon the still sea, our souls must mirror the light of God. We often find ourselves amidst the turbulent waves of life. The crashing of the waves overwhelms our souls, and we try and hang on for dear life, afraid of drowning. The sun can only lay its reflection upon the waters when the waters are calm. Therefore our souls must remain in a state of tranquil peace to reflect God within them.
One of my favorite spiritual reads is “He and I” by Gabrielle Bossis. Gabrielle was a Third Order Franciscan, who wrote a diary, later to be published and titled “He and I” which was filled with the interior locutions she received from Christ. One message Jesus gave to Gabrielle, that pierced my soul when I first read it is the following:
“I know about your every emotion like I know every wave of the sea.” - Jesus to Gabrielle Bossis taken from the book “He and I”
Here, we can see Jesus speaking tenderly to the feminine heart. Christ is saying He knows our emotions, and He is capable of handling them, once we hand them over to Him.
The tenderness of The Lord brings calm to the emotional soul. The same Jesus who calmed the stormy seas for the disciples is the same Jesus who today wants to calm the wild seas in our lives. Christ wants you to invite Him into the waves of your life, so He can calm the storm for you. As the light of the sun soothes the body, the light of The Living God soothes the soul. Allow The Lord to calm the turbulent seas in your life, so His radiant light, can be reflected upon the calm waters of your soul. The Lord dwells interiorly within us in peace and tranquility.
As Saint Paul of The Cross has said, “Be very careful to retain peace of heart, because satan casts his lines in troubled waters.”
May we all strive to retain peace of heart, and dwell in a calm state, so that the Lord’s light may shine upon us.
