Saint Boniface, born as Wynfrid, was an English missionary and bishop who played a key role in spreading Christianity throughout the Germanic lands during the 8th century. He was born around 675 AD in Wessex (present-day Devon), England, and became a monk in the Benedictine monastery of Exeter.
Boniface's mission work started in 716, when he was sent to Frisia (modern-day Netherlands) to help spread the gospel. He quickly gained a reputation for his strong faith, and he was soon appointed Archbishop of Mainz, Germany. He was given the title of “Apostle of Germany.” From there, he traveled throughout the region, establishing monasteries and converting people to Christianity.

Saint Boniface is known for his role in organizing and strengthening the Christian church in Germany, as well as his tireless efforts to eradicate pagan practices and promote the spread of the gospel. Saint Boniface was martyred in 754 AD, while he was on a mission to convert the people of Holland. He was killed by a group of pagans while he was celebrating Mass. The news of his death quickly spread, and he was declared a saint by Pope Gregory IV in 836.
Saint Boniface was canonized in the 9th century, and his feast day is celebrated on June 5th. He is the patron saint of Germany, the Netherlands, and several other countries. He is also considered the patron saint of World Youth Day, which is celebrated by young Catholics every two to three years.
