Saint Matthew: Called, Inspired, Martyred
The Sound of Freedom is coming! Can you hear it?
This 4th of July when we celebrate freedom from the chains of tyranny here in the United States, we will be given a stark reminder and hopeful message about those who suffer the evils of modern day slavery, the sex trafficking of children. Aside from abortion, this is the biggest humanitarian crisis in our llifetime. Human trafficking dwarfs the drug trade in terms of revenue. Drugs only get used once.
The Sound of Freedom, is a film starring a lot of Catholics. It features the Passion of the Christ actor, Jim Caveziel and Eduardo Verástegui, the actor who played Jose in the pro-life film Bella. It is directed by Alejandro Monteverde, the director of Bella. According to the distributor, Angel Studios, “Sound of Freedom is a true story that exposes the darkness of child trafficking. A federal agent saves a boy from traffickers, but his sister is still captive. He embarks on a dangerous mission, risking his life to free her from a fate worse than death.”
In spite of the heavy topic, Sound of Freedom heralds a hopeful message. I am hopeful because I predict three dominos will fall - three successive waves or phases of light, goodness and justice that will reverberate through the darkness and the noise.
The first will be a massive swell of interest generated by this film. It will result in exposure and awareness of the crisis of child sex trafficking.
The second will be a critical mass of viewers who will take to heart and ponder the question posed by the film, ‘What if it was your child?’ They will then spark a movement that will expose our politicians and social elite who quietly give the dirty system a wink and a nod.
And finally, someday, the good guys will bring down the cartels, the traffickers, and round up those sick, twisted souls who create a demand for child sex slaves here in the United States.
“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea" (Mt 18:6).
Here are five reasons why I think this film is already blessed by God…
1. Jim Caveziel, who played Jesus in the Passion of Christ and starred in the Count of Monte Cristo is the leading actor and main star in the film..
2. Eduardo Verástegui, the popular, handsome Mexican actor and Catholic advocate for protection of life in the womb, and strong marriages and families has a huge acting role.
3. Angel Studios, which knows a thing or two about creating a groundswell of support, has committed to distributing the film. This is the film studio that has given us the wildly successful The Chosen, a multi-season series about the life and ministry of Jesus.
4. Alejandro Monteverde, another devout Catholic who directed the award winning pro life and pro family film Bella. He purposefully put a shaft of light in every scene in the movie to be a reminder of the hope we have in liberating these children.
5. Elon Musk has tweeted out his endorsement of the film and encouraged that it be streamed on Twitter. This one tweet already has over a million views.
Please pray that this film does what we are hoping it will do. Tickets information: https://www.angel.com/tickets/sound-of-freedom?variation=july_3&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwOn5ytri_wIVLBitBh0xIQ6AEAAYASAAEgIVFfD_BwE&zip=36037&date=2023-07-03
