Saint Junipero Serra was a Spanish Franciscan priest who was born on November 24th, 1713, in Petra, Majorca, Spain. He is best known for his contributions to the Catholic Church in the New World as a missionary in California. Saint Junipero Serra is the patron saint of the Catholic Church in California and of Catholic missions in the United States and Spain.
