September 11th Remembrance prayer
We live in a world where there is a view that a confident person of faith doesn’t care much about the perception of others. As many devout and religious people have proclaimed, when we know how much God loves us, we are naturally more confident. This is true. However, there are those who are confident in God’s love but are not feeling or receiving much reciprocal care and friendship within their natural support system. With that said, how can one gain more confidence in a Godly way to experience life’s gifts for the better?
Living in the present moment
There is no better way to gain more confidence in oneself than in living in the present moment. In praying to the holy spirit, the Lord will provide all that we need in the moment, especially the gifts of the spirit. We cannot change the past, and we do not know what the future will hold. In living in the present, we can know and experience God’s love and gain a more secure feeling about life in general.
Not letting negative comments or people bring you down
Negative seeming and moody people come in a variety of ways in our daily lives. It could be a parent, a spouse, one's adult child, a friend, a stranger, or others. Off-handed comments are sometimes made by well-meaning family or friends that sound unkind or uncaring. Remember that not everyone has the gift of a friendly or loving demeanor. Some people may be blunt and even cruel in their remarks and comments about others. Sadly, this behavior can come from those who claim to be lovers of God, and this is very sad. Rise above and do not allow those who have a “chip on their shoulder” to take away your own confidence. No one deserves ill-treatment like that, so don’t let the negative people in your life rob you of confidence. God desires for you to feel loved and accepted. Period.
Seek positive people of faith
Seeking out positive-minded people of faith is uplifting to the soul. It is a sure way to be more confident on your daily journey with God and others. As Catholics, carrying a cross and living a sacrificial life of faith does not need to be drudgery. We can live happily and seek the good every day, and this causes positive feelings and brings joy. Steer in this direction, and this will aid in your confidence each day.
Live a positive life of prayer and of giving to others
When we pray and give ourselves in a sacrificial way to help others daily, it will give us more confidence. There are always areas that we all need to improve to become more confident. For some it may be something physical such as losing weight or becoming more fit. For others it may have to do with how we present ourselves to others. There are host of ways we may wish to feel more confident. None of these are bad, but in our culture, we get too focused on the outward and not as much focused on the inward part of who we are in God’s eyes.
When we live a positive life of prayer and sacrifice, this is a sure way to gain more confidence in every other area of our lives. We begin to realize that a lot of the things we care about are not important such as what other people think of us. It only really matters what God thinks and in doing our best each day. The Lord wishes for us to fulfill the special mission which only we can accomplish. This is a reason to be confident.
Keep praying each day and giving your heart to Jesus. As you do, you will find that day by day you will gain more confidence in yourself. Be blessed.
