Growing into the Sacred Heart
Today, at Mass, a young priest sang the words
of consecration to the host, and then
into the chalice. As he sang, I heard
those words as if I were among the men
who first heard Jesus say them long ago.
The chant this young priest chose to sing was filled
with sweet emotion, heartfelt, and with so
much tenderness and gratitude, it thrilled
my soul in a unique and quiet way
I can’t begin to understand right now.
Each word and note rang out as bright as day,
to let us know the time had come to bow.
The time to bow and offer an “Amen,”
just like our Lord’s disciples, way back when.
