Is Jesus asleep in your boat?
“His divine power has bestowed on us everything that makes for life and devotion, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and power. Through these, he has bestowed on us the precious and very great promise, so that through them you may come to share in the divine nature, after escaping from the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire.” (2 Peter 1:3-4)
We have all been enslaved by sin prior to the freedom we found in Jesus. We still struggle with sin and that fight will continue for as long as we live on this earth. We must remember, however, that we are gifted and empowered by God to live life to the fullest. The Christian life goes against everything this world promulgates as ‘life to the fullest.’ Living life to its greatest potential is a blessing from the Lord.
As Christians, we have escaped the bondage and lies of this world. Satan convinces us that living life is to have wealth and power. We cannot live a life pleasing to the Lord without the power of the Holy Spirit. We receive the Holy Spirit through the Sacraments, but we must nurture this power and life for which we are called, or we will once again fall back into the slavery and bondage of this world.
St. Peter reminds us that we have everything we need. “His divine power has bestowed on us everything that makes for life and devotion, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and power.” (vs. 3) We have everything we need if we have Jesus. This world tells us if we do not have a large bank account or if we are struggling in any way then we are missing something in our life. Jesus is the only person and only thing we need in our life. His power has gifted us with having Him fully in our life. If we have Jesus, then we have everything.
Jesus is the Bread of Life, Counselor, the Good Shepherd, Advocate, Deliverer, and our Great Provider. He is the Healer, the Resurrection, and Lord of All. He is everything we need and more.
