What is a “woman”?
It is not difficult to understand why President Joe Biden has refused to answer multiple calls from Cardinal Timothy Dolan. In an interview with the New York Post, Dolan said Biden “doesn’t take my calls”. Dolan, archbishop of New York, has been trying to reach Biden to speak about the migrant crisis impacting New York. There are a few speculative reasons the president could be ignoring the cardinal’s calls. Biden is likely either ignoring the calls because he is not as open to being diplomatic as he claims, too busy falling and taking walking lessons, or perhaps his absentmindedness has caused him to forget how to answer the phone or return Dolan’s calls.
Biden appears to only be Catholic when it suits him during a speech. It is apparent he is only concerned with being Catholic when he wants something from the Church. It is clear he has no interest in listening to Church leadership. However, it should come as no surprise since he has a pattern of ignoring Church teaching on issues where he believes he knows better than God, Tradition, and Sacred Scripture.
New York City, just like countless other cities and states across the nation, have been inundated with a flood of migrants overwhelming their social services and resources. According to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the city has experienced a surge of 60,000 migrants within the last week. He said there have been over 116,000 migrants to be housed in the city in total. An estimated 10,000 more are expected to arrive in New York City within the next month. The overwhelming flood of immigrants has not only exceeded the capabilities of the city and state but has maxed out the abilities of the Catholic Church to aid all who need it. It is because of the diminishing resources that Cardinal Dolan has been reaching out to Biden.
Dolan told Catholic News Agency, “the Church has always been very supportive of the right of a nation to have borders and border security…we don’t just want borders where anybody can come in.” The Catholic Church has been providing services to migrants, but Dolan said the Church is overwhelmed by the number of cases it is receiving. The Church has designated 10 facilities for housing, providing legal assistance, healthcare, and educational resources. The increasing number of migrants is causing the Church to be stretched beyond its ability and hindering its capability to help all those in need.
It appears Biden is only concerned with swinging open the gates of the border, but not caring for those after they cross. Maybe he is too busy trying out his new sneakers, taking physical therapy to learn to walk, or waiting for a White House aid to remind him to care about the migrants. His focus and exclusive purpose for allowing the wave of migrants is not to provide a better life for those seeking freedom. It is for one reason: votes. He has opened the borders and invites all to come into America but ignores the cry of those providing healthcare to them. He has time to repeat the same story in one speech but does not take a minute to discuss ways to provide housing for migrants. He sees the voting booths full in 2024 but is blind to the humanitarian needs of those crossing the border. He desires housing in the White House for the next four years but turns a deaf ear to phone calls from someone providing housing for homeless immigrants.
“New York just can’t handle them all, we know that,” Dolan told the New York Post. “It’s very unfair. This is a New York problem, but it’s not just a New York problem. It is an American problem.”
A leader accepts phone calls from those with needs, even if those calls are from individuals from which they disagree. A coward ignores calls he does not want to consider. A leader listens to all sides and weighs options to solve problems. A coward decides to maintain tunnel vision despite the suffering of others. A leader works to solve problems. A coward creates problems and then runs from solutions. America is not a country ruled by a dictator. We are a country of freedom. Mr. President, ask your White House aid how to answer a phone. After the aid reminds you how to answer the phone, respond to the cardinal and respond to the needs of the individuals you invited here but refuse to help.
