Nature is a garden
The science fiction series Doctor Who is a classic for many sci-fi fans. The show's central character, the Doctor, uses a unique tool that the titular character uses throughout his adventures.
This tool is the sonic screwdriver, an excellent device that can fix things, open doors, find information, and perform seemingly endless tasks the doctor might need at any given time.
The reason why his “weapon” of choice is a screwdriver is that they are a tool meant for fixing, not for destroying. The same can be said for the Bible.
The Bible is intended not to give us ways to justify our sins but to understand better why they are wrong. The Bible is not the word of law, but it is a guidebook translating God's will to humankind.
We should not be using it to condemn others but rather to try to find ways to understand better those who differ from us. We believe we are all sinners, and the Bible should not be shoved into anyone’s face.
Instead, it should be used for reference on how we might relate to stories of the past and how they might lead us to make good moral decisions. Much like Doctor Who chose a screwdriver as his weapon to repair things, God did not give us the Bible to condemn us but rather to guide us.
