A Temple For Christ
The Grief of A Lost Loved One
Eileen Renders October 28, 2023
Most of us have at one time or another experienced the death of someone whom we were very close to. This loss can be as huge as losing a child, or a parent, someone whom we depended upon and interacted with on a daily basis.
Our reaction or response to this loss often goes through such stages as disbelief to anger that our sense of the world has been disrupted. Sadly, we often direct our anger toward God in thinking; “Why did He do this to me”, or “Why did He allow this to happen to me?” We attempt to make sense of why God took my mother or father away from me when I am not even an adult. Or, why did God send me this to allow my beautiful child to raise up to a young adult and then snatch her away from me?
In many scenarios, we are placing the focus on ourselves, our pain, and our sense of loss. We refused, or were unable at that time to recognize, or admit that they were not ours, but always belonged to God. We miss our loved ones, and may even wonder if we will ever see them again in the next world. Not many of us welcome death, in fact, we often find it irrelevant in our world when things are comfortable and going our way. However, death is part of life, and we all belong to Christ.
Some of us require more time on earth to grow in faith and trust in the Lord. Still others are full of love and grace and do not fear death, but see it as God’s natural progression. Therefore, some are taken up sooner at a young age, while others are here to learn, to grow, and to share with others.
