Keep Watch: Reflection for the 1st Sunday of Advent
Simon and Garfunkel once sang a song in the mid 1960s called, “The Sound of Silence”. The song did have a brief stint at number one on the billboards in 1966.
The opening lyrics are so poignant as we look back at what went wrong during the 2023 elections. The musical duo opens the song like this, “Hello darkness, my old friend. I’ve come to talk with you again.”
Again, we received another warning shot from the Buckeye state just months after the August vote to allow a diabolical issue to be voted by Ohioans. Now, the state has voted for death of an innocent children up to near both. We even saw losses in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Are we awakening yet?
There are already a lot of second guessing. The pro-abortion lobby and George Soros spent with the focus on threats to self-interest. This will now pose a challenge for future elections.
What Do We Need to Do?
Go on the offense. The problem with the GOP is that they’re afraid to play hardball with voters. It makes me (a republican voter) wonder how many times they want to keep losing. We’ve lost 2020, 2022, and now 2023.
Think of the times a coach must adjust his players to get a better matchup. When the right matchups happen, a team can contain that one player who was posed to put up certain averages and contain him. Well, I think it’s time that the GOP does the same. Like many disappointing voters, we need accountability from campaign leaders. There is no doubt that socialists have all the tricks that builds their voting base.
First, we need to double down our efforts to protect life. If there were more ads that showed what happens during an abortion, it can prick the mind of voters. We even need ads that exposes the abortion lobby and how it creates notorious murderers through late term abortions.
Even Matt Walsh put it well, “I will never accept abortion. I will never compromise on it.” He’s right. If we are against abortion, it is the time to unceasing attacking the issue. We can’t give up or surrender.
This is a human rights issue. Everyone must take part in protecting life. While the results are fresh in our minds, we too must march on with hope and soldier on with steadfast courage to continue protecting the unborn child.
It starts with putting forth lions for public office. Men and women of principle and character who will boldly and courageously stop it nothing to protect the most vulnerable Americans.
It starts when we be more vocal about our faith.
It starts when we approach the post-elections like the early apostles and keep preaching the truth while calling out the actions of voters and politicians alike.
If we are Catholic, we must live, act, and profess like one. It begins with us.
Be Bold. Be Courageous. Be Not Afraid.
