What my father's death taught me about redemptive suffering
One of the things that annoys me is when people make a claim that Pope Francis did something or said something, without providing the slightest shred of evidence. It's like they believe Lifesitenews is the gospel. They'll claim that a document says something, only for it not to even address the issue at hand, or, worse yet, it actually says the exact opposite. "Pope Francis is undermining the faith". Yeah, that's not evidence. "The Pope has no right to change the Latin Mass", actually, as the Patriarch of the west, ONLY the Pope has that right. People mistake lowercase tradition for uppercase Tradition. Belief in the Holy Trinity is part of the deposit of faith. The language of the Mass isn't. Seriously, how many of y'all even know Eastern Catholics exist? (I mean, at least one of you). Did you know that, in English, the Melkite liturgy has been reformed since the first time I went in 2010? Yeah, because you don't hear Eastern Catholics say things like "Our bishops and Patriarch have no authority to change the Mass". Because that would be absurd. It's almost like people forget that the TLM does NOT go directly to the apostles (how could it? Christianity originated outside of Latin speaking areas, the Eastern empire spoke Greek as the lingua franca). "People who go to the TLM evangelize", really, do they? It seems like they're more concerned about whether or not you go to the "Traditional" Latin Mass (by the way, the T stands for Tridentine, not traditional). Of course, I do not mean to denigrate those who have different liturgical preferences. There's a lot of good that comes from the Latin Mass, but the idea that the Novus Ordo is graceless, is, dare I say, heretical. "But bro, clown Masses (h/t, Michael Lofton from Reason & Theology)". I'm sorry, but, abuse does not negate proper use. So many of y'all, "oh, demons flee from Latin". Yeah, show me where that's Church teaching. "Latin is the official language of the Church", okay, but, the earliest councils authoritative versions were the Greek text. "Pope Francis supports gay marriage", yeah, I'm going to need this thing called "evidence". So many of y'all, care more about fear-mongering than you do about sharing the gospel. And say Pope Francis was personally a heretic. So, what? I'm of the view that the office of the papacy is protected by the Holy Spirit (and I am aware that this puts me at odds with Bellarmine. But, the opinion of a theologian is not Church teaching). Know what is? That the Pope is protected from teaching heresy. Y'all care so much more about the Pope saying something you don't like, that you cease being Catholic in the process. I hope you read this, I hope you think about this, and I hope you realize that you don't know more than Jesus Christ. In fact, we'll get to the promises he made to his Church, but, in the meantime, let's talk about the transgender baptism. Interestingly, there IS biblical precedent to this (thanks to John Bursch from the National Catholic Register for pointing this out, he also pointed out that the document calls for transgender people to repent, which seems to get left out of the radtrad echo chamber). Let's see what the biblical parallel is. "And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship and was returning seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. And the Spirit said to Phillip, "Go over and join his chariot". So Phillip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and asked, "Do you understand what you are reading"? And he said, "How can I unless someone guides me?" And he invited Phillip to come up and sit with him. Now the the passage of scripture that he was reading was this: "Like a sheep he was led to slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth. In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe this generation? For his life is taken away from the earth". And the eunuch said to Phillip, "About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this this about, himself or someone else? Then Phillip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. And as they were going along the road they came to some waater, and the eunuch said, "See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized? And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Phillip, and the eunuch, and he baptized him" (Acts 8:27-38). Notice something? The man was a eunuch. I see people say "oh, Pope Francis said transgenders can be baptized without repenting", really then, provide evidence. You can't, because the very document you cite has a call to repentence. The eunuch wasn't told "Out of luck dude, you can't repent because you can't reverse your surgery". And that's the thing, you have clickbait warriors, so concerned about getting people to like them, that they aren't even willing to get a story right. Well, are you Catholic or not? If you are, why don't you believe Christ's promises? Either the Pope is protected, or he isn't. Either the Church is protected, or she isn't. You must choose. You are being duplicitous when you present yourself as Catholic, but don't hold to Catholic ecclesiology. I am going to leave you with these verses, because maybe, just maybe, something will click. Think about Protestants looking at this. "Oh, you need to be in communion with the Pope, and also, the Pope is undermining the faith". I would not blame a Protestant for not wanting to become Catholic after seeing that. I wouldn't either. Let's recall what Jesus promised the Church, shall we? "Now when Jesus came into the district of Ceaserea Phillipi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets. He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God". And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Johah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven". (Matthew 16:13-19) "Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven".
