Anger and Resentment
Let Go And Let God
Eileen Renders December 2023
Many of us have what is often referred to as a strong will. An individual who knows what they want and is determined to make it happen. Yet when with all our best effort we fail to achieve that goal, we often fail. Failure, or a feeling of failure can trigger emotions such as anger, depression as well as a couple of other negative emotions.
High achievers are energetic and most are curious individuals and want to know why we did not achieve our goal. Many are people with high intellect, and cannot accept failure. President Trump admittedly confesses to being a “Poor loser”. And I have often heard someone referred to as a “control freak”. It is fair to say that none of these descriptive personalities are in a comfortable place and may become volatile at any time.
Taking a look at the other side of the coin we notice people with no motivation at all to achieve. We might see that as laziness, or a non-achiever, or without energy. This too, may not be a good place to be.
Therefore, let us take a peek into some motivation behind a high achiever and a non-achiever. Is the high-achiever an “A-personality” who cannot behave in any other way? Is the low or non-achiever held back either by a mental or physical condition that inhibits his motivation?
Is there a middle ground where one desires to achieve, gives his or her best, and yet is not chosen for the job, and what would be the ideal reaction? Or for the low achievers, do they not compete because of low self-esteem? What then is the middle ground and how do we get there one might ask? Let us examine our conscience and realize that we have no control over the decisions or actions of others. We can only control ourselves.
How do we control our thinking and behavior? Our best ambition should be to always do our best in our endeavors, whether it be on the job, in our career, with friends and family, and accept that all other creatures of the world have the right to make their own way, and carve their own path. Just as in politics and many other topics, perhaps we can agree to disagree.
Tell God each day that this little acceptance; “Not my will, but Thy will be done” can only bring us graces, peace, and acceptance in life.
Let go and let God. We do our best, but always the results are up to God, and only God! Just as we have no knowledge or ability to avoid death at some point in life, neither do we have control over other people, test results, opinions, or choices of others.
