How Does God Test Us?
Are You Ready?
Eileen Renders December 2023
This has always been the most joyous season of the year. We decorate and prepare our home erect a tree, purchase and buy gifts for all of our loved ones, and prepare to gather together with a festive table of treats to share our abundance with those we love, our family.
Jesus was born and lived His life knowing well that He must suffer and die a horrible death on the cross to save us from our sins. He taught in the Temple, and He left to return to the Father after His resurrection, however not without leaving us with the Ten Commandments as a way to live without continuing to sin.
Jesus told His disciples, and it is written in the bible; If we love Him we will avoid sin and one day we will spend all eternity with Him in heaven after we leave this world. Jesus also said that if we continue to sin we will suffer many trials and tribulations such as pestilence, war, famine, and other atrocities.
One example of God’s words can be found in the bible around the time of Sodom and Gomorrah. 18. Abraham pleaded with God to save the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because of the righteous people who were living there. Only when God promised Abraham that if only ten righteous people were living in Sodom would He spare the city, and it was at that point Abraham stopped pleading with God. And God said; “Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and through him all the nations of the earth will be blessed. 19. For I have chosen him so that he will command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord may bring upon Abraham what He has promised” 20. Then the Lord said; “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great.”
Genesis verses 18-19 & 20
In our world today, it has never been more apparent that we are living in equally dangerous times as Sodom and Gomorrah. Violence, terrorists, Hamas, wars, and disobedience of God’s Laws. Because none of us will know the day or the hour when God tells the world that He is ready to destroy and end life on this planet, we can do no more than prepare and be ready. We must pray and remain vigil that we have taught our children well.
