What Have We Done?
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Today, the Church celebrates the Dogma of Faith that states that Mary was concieved or born without the sin of Adam. Adam's sin was disobedience and from that time on, all of mankind has passed down sins of anger, envy, pride, hate, jeolosy, lust, idolatory, anxiety, lies, or just disobedience to the Word of God.
So, how was it that Mary came into this world not touched by these strong human behaviors or feelings. For a baby in the womb will first feel, then even hear the words spoken by not only Mom and Dad, but all the people they come in contact with. Trust me---we all were touched by that sin of man.
Let us see how God Blessed Mary from the moment of conception and even before. In the Gospel of Mathew, we are told of the genology of Jesus begining with Abraham, 14 generations, down to David--then 14 generations to the coming of Jesus from this long line of God's holy people. People who passed on His laws to their children and taught them how to live and obey the Words of God. I have read that it is a Jewish tradition to read the Scripture to the baby in the womb, so the child hears the Word even before birth.
We also find in the Scripture that in Deuteronomy 7:9 "Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations down!"
It is because of these Promises of God, that Mary would have lived in a home, whose parents were strong in their faith and trust of God! They lived His laws, lived in love and even in the womb---she could be free of any of the behaviors, unloving angry words, and worry, fear, anxiety coming from her parents.
I have no questions therefore of just how is it possible that Mary was concieved withot the sin of Adam passed down. Thanks to God's careful planning of bring St. Anne and St Joachim to this earth---they came from a long line of BLESSED people of God 28 generations back--the root of Jesse's stem.
Blessed are you indeed, Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ and spiritual Mother of us all. We are all her children, under the mantal of her protection. Seek her daily, asking her to pray for us all, now and at the hour of our death. AMEN!
