Tis the season all year round
Every day, we use our phones. Some of us are more than others, yet for the most part, we all constantly carry our phones. As a society, we are more connected than ever before, yet the trade-off is that we are disconnected from ourselves.
Our spirit suffers, and our mind is overstimulated as we scroll through endless apps and get nothing done.
We begin to lack focus on ourselves, our faith, and those around us. There is one productive way to lessen our screen time and strengthen our spirit time. The way to do this is to stop yourself each time you want to scroll apps mindlessly and instead say a quick prayer.
At first, this might feel weird. You want to see if you got any more likes or a new email, and instead, you are saying a prayer. Over time, however, you might find that rather than feel overstimulated or upset by social media, the news, or other apps, you might instead feel a sense of peace.
Prayer causes us to pause and reflect. Taking just a moment to do this instead of scrolling on our phones is a productive way to rest our minds rather than overstimulate them. Using your phone is not a bad thing, but perhaps by attempting this exercise, you can find a better balance between praying and scrolling. Put down your phone and pray to see how you feel.
