What does The Bible mean to YOU?
As I get older, I've noticed that things seem blurrier than they once were. Now, I have an astigmatism in my right eye, but, in general, up until my 20s, my vision was pretty good. I know a lot of this has to do with ageing. I also survived a chlorine gas spill that killed nine people when I was a teenager. That couldn't have helped. (and yes, when the time comes, I will write an article about it), even after that though, my vision wasn't terrible. But I want to talk about blindness. Not just physical blindness, but spiritual blindness as well. In John 9:1-3, Jesus's disciples actually showed a type of spiritual blindness, let's read: "As he went along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, for him to have been born blind"? "Neither he nor his parents sinned, Jesus answered, "he was born blind so that the works of God might be displayed in him". His disciples didn't understand that his physical blindness wasn't caused by sin. I'm not going to give you the rest of the verses, but if you want to read it yourself, it's pretty much all of John 9. Anyway, in John 9:7, the man who was born blind was healed. I actually love the verse where the man born blind admonishes the Jewish leaders in John 9:31-34. Because a man born blind, would know how he was healed of his blindness.
One day, I may very well lose my vision. I may never be able to see. But I can at least know Jesus. While physical blindness most certainly is not ideal, it is nowhere near as bad as spiritual blindness. May we all be able to see Christ.
