DO MORE; NOT LESS DURING LENT
December 28th marks the feast of Holy Innocents. The feast is recalled in the Gospel of Matthew following the Magi’s visit to Jesus in Bethlehem.
When the magi had departed, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said,
"Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt,
and stay there until I tell you.
Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him."
Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night
and departed for Egypt.
He stayed there until the death of Herod,
that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled,
Out of Egypt I called my son.
When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi,
he became furious.
He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity
two years old and under,
in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi.
Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:
A voice was heard in Ramah,
sobbing and loud lamentation;
Rachel weeping for her children,
and she would not be consoled,
since they were no more.
Matthew 2:13-18
In our society, 63 million Americans have been murdered thanks to the barbaric Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision in 1973. While the Dobbs decision has sent the issue back to the states, there is much that needs to be done to build a culture of life today.
Even our “Catholic” president has a correlation to King Herod. Biden wants abortion no matter what. How could a “Catholic” tolerate this sinister evil? A real Catholic president would stop it nothing to build a culture of life now.
For Catholics, we are called to defend the most vulnerable in our society. We are called to protect the innocent. We do that by not saying that “I’m pro-life”. Rather, we put our convictions into action. One of those ways is to get involved in the pro-life movement.
The first step is volunteering at pregnancy resource centers. The biggest step is to step out into the breach and pray at abortion facilities.
This is a call to action to every Catholic who wants to see more birthdays rather than death days.
To paraphrase St Teresa of Calcutta, there can be both too many children and flowers in the world.
The good news that a baby who survived the infanticide would go on to defeat the power of Satan while establishing the Catholic Church. His name is Jesus.
