30 Years of The Sandlot
The church commemorates the feast of the Holy Family. This family has endured so much that we can learn how they overcame everything that was thrown at them.
Dr. Scott Hahn once remarked that, “In the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, God reveals our true home. We’re to live as His children, “chosen ones, holy and beloved,”
It is through this family that we are reminded that the children parents bring forth who are God’s first. Hence, their destiny is to come into the kingdom of heaven.
The family’s first duty is to be teachers. The family is known as the domestic church. It is through this role, they teach them about God, manners, and how to love. Even St. John Paul the Great reminds us, “Thus the little domestic Church, like the greater Church, needs to be constantly and intensely evangelized: hence its duty regarding permanent education in the faith…the family, like the Church, ought to be a place where the Gospel is transmitted and from which the Gospel radiates…the future of evangelization depends in great part on the Church of the home.”
It is through the Holy Family that we learn humility. Through them we learn how to give God our struggles, hardships, love for enemy and neighbor. Through them, they show us to walk with God.
As we commemorate this feast, let us ask for their intercession to protect all families from the culture of death.
Holy Family, pray for us.
