How are you keeping the Lord's Day holy?
The way to Heaven is indeed Jesus, who is “The Way, The Truth, and The Life” [John 14:6]. But what is the purpose of making it to Heaven? To be loved by God and to love God… yes. The purpose has to do with being images and likenesses of the Son to love the Father and be loved by the Father. After all, Jesus was constantly pointing to the Father. Yes, He did not diminish Himself, but if we are to call His Father, Our Father, then that greatly changes our purpose.
In the Lord’s Prayer, we say “hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven”. It was Jesus that was forever doing these to the Father before all of creation. He honored His Father’s name as Father. He brought about His Father’s Kingdom as His Father’s Only Son and did His Father’s Will. Indeed, Jesus teaches us to do this on earth as He has done it for all of eternity. And once we enter Heaven, we are now joining with Jesus in doing this perfectly in Heaven.
We cannot know the Father without knowing the Son. Indeed, it is through the Son that we can become sons and daughters. We cannot know the Father unless the Son reveals Him to us. And Jesus desires to reveal to everyone the Father, in order that they might love His Father like He does.
Jesus, it is through You that we find Our Father. Help us to be great sons and daughters to do “on earth” what You have done for all of eternity “in Heaven”. Amen.
