Lord, Make Me A Bold Witness
Jesus is our Model for Boldness. He knew who He was; He knew His purpose; He knew His earthly life would end; and He appointed the apostles to continue and spread His teachings. The Anointing of the Holy Spirit transmitted His boldness to them. Paul made a point of letting us know we were not to be timid (2 Tim 1:6-8)
My own life has been filled with fearfulness and hesitation. I have not been bold in my actions. But, now, after going on a domestic mission, the experience has taught me much about courage (the Big Brother of Boldness). As I become less fearful, I became more willing to express myself both spiritually and through the growth of my humanity by using my gift of creativity.
Being bold shows us that we have no limits and the more we gain in courage, the bolder we become. Our understanding of what boldness requires of us, shows us our way. Each of us are called in a different way. No one can tell us or show us. It is prayerfulness and communion with God's word that shows us our direction. The stronger we are in courage, the bolder we become in all aspects of our lives. Our best self, which is God's greatest desire for us, feeds on courage and boldness. When we lose fear, we become confident of our direction and who we are, we can more easily accept the gift of that direction even if it's a terrifying fate demanded of us.
I have a long way to go and I need patience, real patience, not the relief of it being a slow journey (which would be cowardly). It is the patience of recognizing the direction when it is shown to us and then acting on it, as the step by step process that it is. Only God knows how many steps we have to boldness but it is important that we don't miss any of them. It is important that we keep forging ahead.
Dear God,
Help me to live with courage, help me take the hand of courage and walk boldly. Give me fortitude and strength that I may witness to your truth.
In Christ's name,
Amen
