Joe McGivney’s personal transformation story is proof that healing from alcoholism is possible and “modern miracles do occur.” He shares that all of this happened through the intercession of his relative Bl. Michael McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus.
In You’re a Miracle! My Story of Alcoholism, Miraculous Healing, and God’s Infinite Power and Love, Joe reveals how what started as casual drinking as a youth became full-blown dependence and addiction. At his most desperate moment, he developed “wet brain,” was committed, and told he would need 24/7 care for the rest of his life.
The saga continued until, suddenly, he woke up. Joe recounted, “The love of God had intervened in my life and done something for me that only he could do. He himself had reached down and touched me and drawn me back from destruction.”
On the day that he was released from the treatment center, Joe recalls that he was put in a van and dropped off at his empty house. Soon after, he did a Google search for “Surrender Prayer.” Joe powerfully incorporates a line from this prayer at the beginning of each chapter in his book. It is a striking reminder to us that, when we surrender everything to God in our darkest moments, His light pours through to set us free.
Unbeknownst to Joe, his Aunt Gerry had started a family prayer chain and asked the intercession of Bl. Michael McGivney. Joe’s favor was documented and sent to the McGivney Guild; when their research is complete, they can submit it to the Vatican to consider as the second miracle for Bl. McGivney’s canonization.
Joe fully came back to the Catholic Church, lives the Twelve Steps, and has enjoyed a new beginning. Now he testifies to the wonders of God’s love in talks and interviews.
“I have known Joe and his family for several years and am convinced that he is living proof that anything is possible with God,” shared Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Director Scott O’Connor.
This is a book that will restore your faith in the power of miracles and help you grow in greater trust of God regardless of your circumstances. Bl. Michael McGivney, pray for us!
