The Douay Rheims Bible could really use an update
Let me say at the offset, that my goal here is not to be offensive. There are a lot of people whom believe what I believe to be false gospels, that, if they were Christian, would be very good ones. Anyway, I've had Mormonism on my mind a lot. I have zero desire to be Mormon, and read the Book of Mormon as a child, and thought it was boring. (This does not disprove its inspiration, we're getting to that, I believe Leviticus can be a chore to read, but I've read it five times. Unlike the BOM, I DO hold Leviticus to be inspired). Anyway, I was doing a show I do every week, and I had decided to make it about this topic. I wanted to talk about Islam, but I was having trouble finding the relevant information (my sister is a former Muslim, so I'll see if she can't help me on thay one). Anyway, in Islam and Mormonism, in both angels play a central role in "revealing" their respective religions. Right now I just want to focus on Mormonism (and I know not all Mormons belong to the mainline LDS church, but I will use Mormon and LDS interchangably). In Mormonism, the Angel Moroni is said to have appeared to Joseph Smith, and have given him golden plates (https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/history/topics/angel-moroni?lang=eng), which Joseph Smith is alleged to have translated from. Not only do I not believe this, I find the story itself to be unworthy of credibility. Why is that? Because it contradicts the very thing Paul warned us against in the Bible! Mormons do use to Bible (the King James Version), so, keep this in mind when Mormons come to your door. Do all things in charity, but remember this verse. "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed". (Galatians 1:8). Now, of course, Mormons did not exist when Paul was writing (contrary to Joseph Smith's restoration charge), so Paul was not writing about the LDS per se. He was warning about ANY gospel that contradicts what's already been delivered. As an aside, Church approved apparitions can never contradict Catholic teachings, for the very reason that would be "another gospel". Not only do Mormons teach another gospel, look at the introduction to the BOM on the LDS church's website, : "Introduction "The Book of Mormon is a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible. It is a record of God’s dealings with ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains the fulness of the everlasting gospel." Book of Mormon" That's quite a bold claim for something that is said to come from an angel. There is a lot of good about Mormons, and many LDS are very good, moral, upstanding people. But, they have a false gospel. They can be good, moral, and upstanding people without being Mormon. *BOM=Book of Mormon *I use LDS and Mormon interchangably because, up until recently, so did the LDS church (i.e., the, "I'm a Mormon" campaign, which was within my lifetime, in fact, it was used when I was already an adult in my 20s). *I chose not to do the archaelogy and genetic issues with the BOM, because it would take too long.
