What Must We Give To Jesus To Receive His Blessings?
How And Why We Must Surrender
Eileen Renders January 2024
There are times in our lives perhaps, that not unlike a Movie show, we may think of surrendering as losing or allowing the bad guys to take control over our lives. Letting that scenario rest, it is a surrender to God, our creator that is of importance to us, and of great benefit to us in our lives that we will focus on here and now.
The first question that usually surfaces within this context is “How do I surrender to God?” Surrendering to God requires that from this moment forward we desire to please God, and resist entertaining thoughts of temptations that are displeasing to God. Yet to remain free from sin, we are required to make the sacraments of Reconciliation, Mass, and Holy Communion every Sunday, and after receiving the most sacred Host in Holy Communion, kneeling and giving thanks to God and asking Him to take our will, and replace it with His will because we never again want to hurt Him through sin. We offer to God the greatest gift we have to offer, which is the free will given to each of us from God at birth. Repeating these steps and this offer to God each week with a sincere heart will ensure that God will accept this offering from us.
We will be confident that God has accepted our will because we will begin to see and feel how our lives are being changed in many positive areas. To begin with, our faith will be increased, we become stronger in resisting temptation, and are becoming more pleasing in God’s eyes. Our choices and decisions are guided and we sense that a greater power is leading our steps.
Because of the positive changes that begin happening in our lives, we become gifted with the wisdom of understanding. We understand that God is with us. And this wisdom graces us with the joy of knowing that God is with us, guiding our every step. Another grace that is sure to follow is the blessing of being able to evangelize. We are filled with God’s love and mercy and desire to share with others the blessings of surrender. And add to that beautiful feeling, we can also be inspired and motivated to work for God in our effort to help assist others in their effort to become closer in their relationship with God. What a job, what a glorious journey as we walk toward God and our mission on earth so that one day when we are called to leave this world we can do so with a comfortable conscience, a free spirit, and a heart full of mercy and love that God will welcome us into His kingdom with open arms.
