The Lion King at 30 and Its Lessons of Faith
For 50 years, the March for Life has grown into becoming the largest peaceful grassroot event in the United States. It has saw a courageous Catholic convert who wanted an annual event take place every year to stand in solidarity with women and children to grow into a movement.
Today would have been the 51st anniversary of Roe v Wade. Thankfully, it was aborted before its 50th anniversary. The annual events in 2023 and now this year were only the beginning of a post-Roe society following the Dobbs decision has changed many dynamics. At the same time, we continue the work to build a culture of life in a now post-Roe society.
The route that once ended near the Supreme Court has adjusted its route to pass by the Rayburn House Building (3rd largest in DC that houses all the offices of members of the House of Representatives) and ultimately ending near the capitol building. Yet, those who regretted their abortion continue to rally outside of the court that went from sentencing death to unborn on the federal level to now sending the issue back to the states. With the Dobbs decision, many states have enforced their abortion bans that saved over 30,000 lives in the past year.
Those who marched in the snowy conditions on January 19th may have heard chants from young pro-life activists that went,” 1,2,3,4 Roe v Wade is out the door. 5,6,7,8 now it’s time to legislate.” Then, some from the consistent life network were making pleas to free a few political prisoners which includes Father Fidelis for the violation of the FACE Act. Other pro-lifers use their spontaneity to chant an original pro-life chant. Students from Penn State University, who carried the March for Life banner this year, were no exception when they chanted “WE ARE… PRO-LIFE”. Even their conference rival Ohio State put a pro-life spin to their own with, “L-I-F-E”.
Amid the chants, those praying the rosary and Divine Mercy chaplet, there were some that carried signs. Some shared how their mom chose life, an unplanned pregnancy that has helped as mom to choose life, and even pro-life messages with the use of many pop culture references like Star Wars (think The Mandalorian series).
Every year pro-lifers march with a purpose. Now, as we continue to navigate a post-Roe society, we must do our part to protect the most vulnerable who are made in God’s image and likeness and are worthy of protection.
Let us continue to protect life from the moment of conception until natural death. March on, pro-lifers. March every day for those without a voice. March on for those who need healing and to see the face of God. March on for the marginalized in our society.
March on for their lives depend on your love and support.
