Soldiers of God
One time, I was listening to a wonderful old priest at a retreat, and for some reason, the words he said, "and to think we are nourished and fed, by putting food through a hole on our face", have stuck with me. I know that sounds weird and crazy, but it really is amazing how God structured our bodies to the degree that He did. He even gave us the symbolization of when something is cut off the other parts miss it. I believe we are all part of 1 body. The body of Christ. When 1 person fails, we all feel it. Jesus, describing Himself as the "good shepherd" and leaving the 99 to go find that 1 who is missing, proves it. We are all fed the same. I don't mean with food, I mean with the spiritual love and knowledge and fullness of the 1 true God. If you have never heard of Jesus Christ, the God of Abraham, Jacob and Isaiah, then you're not listening. Being nourished with physical food can only be completed in my eyes by the nourishment of the Holy Eucharist. The true satisfaction of fullness, ones body and soul could have. Holding Jesus as close in our hearts as that is, when we receive Communion, is a gift beyond all measure. Letting yourself become immersed into Communion with our Lord on a 1 on 1 basis can be true ecstasy when you allow yourself to fall freely backwards into His heavenly arms. Feeling the unworthiness has also been a feeling I have experienced after receiving our Lord. To put myself in the presence of the one I call "King" is something I try to do every time and on those moments when I surrender, the pain in my soul from my sins can be overwhelming. But you know what happens? Immediately, He comforts me, and I feel like the 1 sheep of 100 that He went out looking for.
Nourishing our souls, is as important as nourishing our bodies. For without Him we are nothing, therefore making it essential to have that balance of spiritual food as well as physical food.
"Oh Jesus, I cannot receive you in the Holy Sacrifice of the Eucharist at this very moment, but oh! how I so desire to. Please come to me in a Spiritual Communion and I shall embrace thee as if thou were already there. Never permit me to be without you again. Amen "
