Did you know that Saint Valentine was arrested and while in jail he restored the sight of his jailer's daughter, and in doing so cause the jailer and his entire family (extended) 46 people in total, to be converted to Christianity. Upon hearing this, the cruel emperor Claudius, ordered Valentine to be executed. Saint Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, whom he had befriended, signing in it "From Your Valentine"... Thus, the beginning of Valentine's Day.
Just think, for centuries now, from the beginning of our school lives, giving Valentines to our friends loved ones. The tradition is sweet and tender and symbolizes everything God is...A Heart and Love. Sweet smelling red roses are an extra added touch, but the Heart and Love are the deepest. They make us feel good and wanted.
God gave us His heart. Giving us His only Son In total love. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a powerful gift given to us through his sufferings of Love. Carrying our wretched sins on His back and still getting up after He fell 3 times. No greater sign of Love will ever be displayed as a model for all of us to follow. Dying to ourselves and giving "our" hearts to God is a true sign to Him who is Love. That we want to obey and honor Him in sickness and in health until death do us part.
Thank you Saint Valentine, for giving "us" a Valentine of Love, by your example of a true creation of God's.
