. It’s Holy Week: Yes, Jesus Will Return
Creator rules creation,
the sun not brighter
than God’s Holy Son,
He Who lights the world.
Moonlight is sometimes
clouded and is always
dimmer than the sun,
but still, the moon
comes out each night.
Likewise, the living—
made by the Hand of God—
include yellow dandelions,
leafing trees along the path,
leaves that shimmer, almost
transparent in wind. Even rocks
must have a deeper significance
than is evident on the way up
to the mountaintop. Jesus is
radiant and glowing,
pure and white, dazzling,
salvific.
Today after the priest’s
homily and consecration
of bread and wine,
I communed with God—
Body and Blood,
Soul and Divinity.
I received and also truly gave,
as much as I thought I could.
As I knelt and closed my eyes,
I saw ripples of rapture
become rays of delight.
The priest returned
to the altar. Others prayed
or sang a hymn, but I tried to
let go even further, for I had
seen the shape of a heart.
The heart was an invitation,
clearly God’s call, but the heart
was not really a heart, only
mutated modern art from
a book cover. Still, any call from
God deserves a swift reply.
Yes, I want to be holy.
