How Ephesians 6:10-11 Empowers Catholic Women on Their Wellness Journey
As Holy Week unfolds, the Christian world turns its gaze towards the profound mysteries of faith, culminating in the remembrance of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection.
For Catholic women, such as myself, who have experienced the heartbreaking loss of a pregnancy or an infant, this time of year can evoke a myriad of emotions, from deep sorrow to renewed hope. In the midst of our grief, we can find solace and healing through reflecting on the last seven words of Jesus spoken from the cross.
1."Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."(Luke 23:34)
In these words, Jesus demonstrates boundless mercy and forgiveness even in the face of unimaginable suffering. As we grapple with the pain of loss, we are reminded of the power of forgiveness in our own healing journey. By extending forgiveness to ourselves and others, we open our hearts to the possibility of healing and reconciliation.
2. "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise."(Luke 23:43)
Jesus offers the promise of eternal life to the repentant thief hanging beside Him, reminding us of the hope of reunion with our precious babies in the heavenly kingdom. In the midst of our grief, we can take comfort in knowing that our little ones are embraced in the loving arms of God for all eternity.
3. "Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother."(John 19:26-27)
Even in His agony, Jesus entrusts the care of His mother Mary to the beloved disciple John, demonstrating the importance of community and support in times of sorrow. As Catholic women who have experienced loss, we are called to lean on one another for strength and solidarity, finding comfort in the shared journey of grief and healing.
4. "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"(Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34)
These words echo the depths of human despair and abandonment experienced by Jesus on the cross. In our own moments of questioning and doubt, we can find solace in the knowledge that Jesus understands our pain intimately. He walks with us through the darkest valleys of grief, offering His presence and companionship along the way.
5. "I thirst."(John 19:28)
In His physical thirst, Jesus expresses His humanity and vulnerability, inviting us to bring our own needs and desires before God. As we thirst for healing and consolation, we are reminded to turn to the wellspring of grace found in prayer, Scripture, and the sacraments.
6. "It is finished." (John 19:30)
With these words, Jesus declares the completion of His earthly mission and the fulfillment of God's plan for salvation. As we journey through the pain of loss, we are reminded that our suffering is not in vain. Through Christ's sacrifice on the cross, we find the promise of redemption and new life.
7. "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." (Luke 23:46)
In His final breath, Jesus surrenders Himself fully into the hands of His heavenly Father, trusting in His divine providence and love. As we entrust our own pain and sorrow to God, we are invited to surrender our hearts completely, allowing His grace to bring healing and wholeness.
This Holy Week, may we find strength and comfort in the words of Jesus spoken from the cross.
May we embrace the hope of resurrection and new life, knowing that our suffering is not the end of the story. And may we walk together as sisters in faith, supporting and uplifting one another on the journey toward healing and wholeness.
