Man needs rest
"I was raised Catholic" doesn't make you an expert in Catholicism. In fact, a lot of times, it's the exact opposite.
Now, what I won't be doing is blaming Vatican II. What I will be doing is blaming incompetence.
Of course, I won't deny that some Catholic schools are great, academically, but to be honest, poor in faith formation.
I think there's this odd concept, where we have this idea that the Church will raise our children.
Actually, that's the parents' job.
Say though, what if they kids were baptized Catholic, say, maybe as teenagers, but the parents don't practice, then what? Then I'd argue whomever the closest relative who's practicing's job.
Sadly, at that age, they don't always worry about their salvation, and listen to people who push them away from God;
As an aside, I have yet to hear any convincing atheist argument. It doesn't logically hold that if Christianity is false (it isn't) that every religion is false.
it could be an unknown religion is true.
Luckily, Christianity is true. People will criticize interdenominational squabbles (myself included), but, see, Christianity existed before denominations.
Back to what I was saying (As I am the king of tangents).
Being raised Catholic, going to Catholic school, and CCD classes every week, doesn't make you an expert in Catholic theology.
Of course, I don't think you need a degree in theology to learn or teach these things. Although I went to college, I am, by and large, and autodidact. (In defense of autodidacts)
I've read books, went to many websites, took notes at church. I'm not an expert and I don't claim to be.
While I'm a pro-life convervative, you'll note that the only political thing I really write about is Ukraine. (because people weirdly think tkilling civilians is "conservative").
Though, I do want to write an article on helping people remember that contraceptives are a sin (because they are). (Truth matters)
You can be good in one area and not so good in others. I know a scientist, who is also a Catholic deacon. He has studied both theology and, as a result, is good at both theology and science. He's also multilingual. But, if I started speaking to him in a language he doesn't know, like say, I was speaking Ukrainian and, and he was speaking Polish, we might understand some of what each one is saying (as many of the words are the same in both languages). However, if we had to write it down, he'd have to study. While he can read Cyrillic, so far as I know, he can't read UKRAINIAN cyrillic. (And, if he can, it wouldn't surprise me, dude is smart).
Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is this. Smart people can get things wrong. And not so smart people can get them right. And make sure you raise up your children in the LORD, because if you don't, the world will raise them up against the LORD..
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it". (Proverbs 22:6, King James Version).
