Prayer to St. Lucy (for Eyes & Vision Issues)
As April 15th draws near, many of us find ourselves grappling with the financial burden of paying taxes. It’s a time that can be stressful and overwhelming, especially for those who are already struggling to make ends meet. However, as Catholics, we can find solace and encouragement in the words of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is asked about the lawfulness of paying taxes to Caesar. His response is both profound and enlightening: “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God” (Mark 12:17) This simple yet powerful statement reminds us that while we have earthly obligations, our ultimate loyalty lies with God.
Jesus acknowledges that paying taxes is a necessary part of living in a civilized society. He doesn’t condemn the practice or suggest that we should resist it. Instead, he reminds us that our financial responsibilities, while important, are secondary to our spiritual duties.
When we find ourselves stressed about taxes, we can take comfort in knowing that Jesus understands our struggles. He lived a life of poverty and knew firsthand the challenges of making ends meet. He is not a distant, uncaring figure, but a compassionate Savior who empathizes with our difficulties.
Moreover, Jesus’ words remind us that our true treasure lies not in earthly wealth, but in our relationship with God. When we prioritize our faith and trust in His providence, we can find peace even in the midst of financial hardship. We are called to be responsible stewards of the resources God has given us, but we must never forget that our ultimate security comes from Him.
As we navigate the challenges of tax season, let us remember that we are not alone. We have a loving Savior who walks beside us, offering comfort and strength. Let us give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, but let us also give to God what belongs to God – our hearts, our trust, and our devotion.
In moments of stress and worry, we can turn to prayer, asking God to guide us and provide for our needs. We can also seek support from our faith community, knowing that we are part of a larger body of believers who are all striving to live out Jesus’ teachings.
So take heart, dear brothers and sisters. Though taxes may be a burden, they are a temporary one. Our true hope lies in Christ, who promises us an eternal reward that far surpasses any earthly treasure. Let us face this season with faith, trusting in God’s goodness and finding comfort in the words of our Savior.
