The Ladder
Holy water is 1 of those extraordinary sacramentals that I keep a good supply of on hand. Sprinkling this Blessed water can assure you that the Sacrament from which it came "Baptism", is a Holy, Pious and Precious thing given to us from God Himself.
Why do we dip our fingers in the font before entering into the Church? To make our souls clean before participating in the most magnificent act of Holy Mass or to plead our case before the Almighty ever present in the Tabernacle.
All of the Sacraments and Sacramentals given to us have pure and Holy meanings. Our homes are blessed with Holy water, our Wedding rings are Blessed with Holy water, our bodies our Blessed with Holy water at Baptism. A sign of cleanliness and new beginnings. A washing, in a sense. A chance for the Holy Spirit to enter in.
We don't start out on a journey without packing everything we need for the days to be traveled. We brush our teeth before bed so as to clean our mouths for the hours we sleep. We fill our gas tanks so we don't run out of gas while we're driving. We Prepare. So as Holy Water. Essential to our very being. It cleanses, blesses, purifies and sanctifies us. It calms the storms that rage outside and inside our Souls. The evil one cannot stand it. He feels a sharp taste of fire like the one he so willingly and wretchedly wants us to feel for eternity.
Keep some Holy water around wherever you go. You never know when someone is in need of a good washing, and they will be forever grateful to a God who always saves.
