The Wonders of Creation
Now that Spring is here I see many people taking advantage of the stronger breezes to fly kites. As I was watching a group of kites inflight one day, it struck me how much like kites we are as human souls.
The tissue that comprises the sail of the kite is fragile. It is light, and that lightness is what allows it to fly. But it also makes the kite vulnerable to the whims if the wind. Too strong a wind can rip a kite to shreds. Even light winds can make flight difficult without the framework to hold the sail
Have you ever noticed how much like a cross this framework is? The center and crosspiece give the kite stability in the wind and protect it. It must be light enough to not ground the kite, but strong enough to protect it. With the cross, the kite is less vulnerable tongue wind.
Our souls are like the kite. We too are made to fly, but we are made if fragile stuff. Like the tissue paper sail of a kite, we can be torn apart if the wind is too strong. We can be blown off course too, or the storms of life might destroy us.
Except God created our souls to fly and He does not expect us to fly alone. He gave us His only Son tomguide and protect us. One of the ways Jesus does this is through the Cross. He is the framework upon which our souls spend. When we spread out our arms and embrace the Cross, we are no linger as troubled by the vagaries of life. We have Someone and something to cling to for strength. No matter what happens, He is there holding us up in the wind, allowing us to fly and come closer to the heights where He dwells.
There is nothing to fear. Embrace your cross and fly!
