Are We Addicted to Entertainment?
During this season of Easter, we should ask ourselves what are we really witnesses of? Are we witnesses of Jesus’s power and love in our lives, or are we witnesses of something else like a particular lifestyle?
This question occurred to me while at a dinner event this weekend and after traveling home from a work trip. I overheard a variety of people talk about their various trips and excursions around the world. These people were witnesses of their travels and exciting lives. It amazed me how captivated everyone was by what these people were saying. Evidently, we are curious to see and experience the world around us!
But were they to God’s work in their lives? No. Where are all these travels going to get them at the end of their lives? Did the Saints spend their lives traveling the world seeing all the sights and sounds, or did they spend their time and energy in one pocket of the world that needed their attention?
I rarely hear anything about God when I’m out and about. It feels like we are witnesses to our travels, home improvements, family, accomplishments, entertainment, and exciting experiences of this world rather than their spiritual experiences of Jesus and how He has transformed their lives. Has the Resurrection changed anything in us?
Maybe it’s time to take a look at what we are really witnesses of in our lives. What are we spending a lot of time talking about and witnessing to instead of Jesus and what He was about?
