Finding God in pop culture Part II: More secular music
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-4)“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-4)Of course there’s more, but we’d be here a lot longer if I wrote the whole thing. Sometimes, we just need to laugh. And, while I don’t believe you should ever laugh at someone elses’ misfortunes, I think sometimes, it might be okay to laugh at misunderstandings. And, indeed, given how serious I can be sometimes, I think we need some time to laugh. I mean, scripture even tells us that there is a time to laugh. To everything there is a season, and let’s start remembering that one. Whether it’s people who claim that Sunday worship is the Mark of the Beast Catholic Church Admits they Changed the Sabbath?? (7th Day Adventists DEBUNKED), or that claim bitcoin is the Mark of the Beast, or that believe stage magic is Satanic ((EXPOSED) Michael Dimond doesn't understand magic)I also think we need to get back into the habit of having something to laugh at. I was never the class clown in school (I was the shy kid), but I’ve always appreciated comedy. And, every once in a while, I’m mistaken for funny. While I can (and certainly do), tell jokes, I think there’s an art to comedy. First things first, with very few exceptions, I hate ethnic or racial comedy. I don’t mean you can’t joke about your ethnic background or anything like that. And it CAN be funny. I just sometimes find it incredibly lazy. Religious comedy I find funny, but only tastefully. I was watching Dry Bar Comedy (Dry Bar Comedy , and one of the comedians mentioned asking for a good coffee place, and that people prayed for his soul after it. Probably not what you would think if you didn’t know a whole lot about Utah (where Dry Bar is based). And then you think for a minute, “Oh yeah, Utah, LDS majority. He’s making a joke about Mormons”! (Mormons are not big coffee drinkers, and “Temple worthy” Mormons don’t drink it).Likewise, if you ever get bored, type in “Clean Christian memes”, into a search engine, and click “images”. I don’t have a Facebook, but I am a member of this group on MeWe, (Catholic Memes and Funnies), as well as this one (Clean Comedy).I also have an affinity for puns. My nieces and nephews (as I have no children), told me I tell “Uncle jokes”. I had to ask what those are. According to them, “like Dad jokes, but worse”. I think they mean “better”. And, for the record, I do find at least one woman funny (sorry Matt Fradd,Too Far with Laura Horn)
