Welcoming Back Chreasters
Saints Alive
In the Summer of 2019 Gus DeSimone challenged himself to write a song per month for a year about the saints. What resulted was a deeper devotion to each saint, and more than a dozen well-crafted songs in a range of musical styles that have led many to call him the "Catholic Paul Simon". His songs explore the stories of the Saints from a multitude of perspectives, helping the listener contemplate God’s goodness through their heroic examples of virtue.
Fast forward to January 2023 and Gus joins forces with percussionist Fr. Hyacinth Marie Cordell and multi-instrumentalist David Goldberg, to form the core of the Saints Alive band. They debuted to a packed house at the Stotesbury Mansion in Rittenhouse Square in February and have receive rave reviews for their performances ever since.
Since the inception of Saints Alive, they have played at many local events like the Philadelphia March for Life, Abbeyfest, Magnifest, and many young adult gatherings.
“Saints Alive isn't just about creating melodies; it's about a mission—a mission to reinvigorate our culture with music that reflects the truth, beauty, and goodness of God in a world that has lost sight of Him.” Gus reflected.
Recently, Gus has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to record the band’s debut album.
He invites us “to join us in a mission—a mission to reach people in the most influential way possible, through the universal language of beauty and the power of music.”
The goal of Saints Alive has been to evangelize about the message of faith through the songs of many beloved saints in the Catholic Church.
"Saints Alive Volume 1" will feature songs about beloved Saints such as Padre Pio, Gemma Galgani, St. Sebastian, Mary Magdalene, the Holy Innocents, St. Clare of Assisi, St. Cecelia, St. Joseph, St. Brigid of Ireland, St. Maximillian Kolbe, St. Charles L'Wanga and His Companions, and the Georgia Martyrs.
“This album is a beacon of hope, a testament to the enduring power of faith, and a call to arms in the battle for souls.” Gus proclaims.
